Cologne is currently hosting the world’s largest video game fair, Gamescom . Along with Nintendo and Electronic Arts, some of the key exhibitors who are staying away this year include Sony. This Thursday, however, the Playstation manufacturer should still be a topic of conversation in the exhibition halls: Sony has just announced that it will increase the price of its current games console.
In its blog post, Sony writes of a “difficult decision” that was made due to “difficult economic conditions” as “high global inflation rates and unfavorable currency trends”.
Besides Europe, the suggested retail prices will also be increased in Japan, China, Mexico, Canada and Australia. No adjustment is planned for the USA, where Microsoft’s Xbox console has a higher market share than in Europe.
The new prices in Europe should apply »immediately«. Expect the console’s street price to match Sony’s recommendation quickly as the Playstation 5 remains hard to come by.
If it’s time is currently available from dealers or can at least be pre-ordered, the console is already being sold in the form of so-called bundles at prices of over 500 Euro sold – according to the principle: “If you want the console, add these two games.” hoped that, like the previous models, it would soon be offered at a lower price.
