What did you do this past weekend? If you were like me, you were hanging out on the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia for the 5th annual Budweiser Made In America festival.
This year I had a chance to see one of my favorite record producers Paul Salva Jr. (better known as just Salva) spin his signature blend of Rap and electronic music with remixes of Rihanna’s “Needed Me”, Chromeo’s “Sexy Socialite” and a synth pop remix of Matt & Kim’s “It’s Alright”. It was definitely a performance I was looking forward to for awhile and I am so glad I got to see him perform live.
After his set, I had the rare opportunity to catch up with him backstage to ask him a few quick questions about his Budweiser Made In America experience. Since my highlight of the weekend was seeing Salva perform and even having the chance to meet him, I wanted to find out from him what his highlights were from the festival. Salva said “watching Rihanna last night was dope. Getting to see Jay Z today, he’s my favorite, and just being here to experience it. It’s my first time here so being here is awesome.”
While he did mention that he watched Rihanna perform on Saturday night, I asked if he had the opportunity to see any other performances. Salva mentioned that he watched ColleGrove (which is Tunechi and 2Chainz), and said “It was dope I love them. I was happy they played all their individual hits. People were going crazy!” He even mentioned catching Jamie XX which he said was sick. And mentioned wanting to see Chance The Rapper and FKA Twigs. “There’s a lot of dope acts. It’s a very good lineup” he added.
I ended our meet and greet with wanting to know what we can expect from him next. He really opened up and share some final comments by telling me “I put out a lot of rap music and will continue to do so. I love hip hop and rap, it’s part of my DNA, but I’m focusing more on the dance side of stuff right now. So, the next EP (which is coming soon) is going to be more musical and more EDM/dance related.”
