May 31, 2018 | Huntington Bank Pavilion, Chicago, IL – On a beautiful spring evening on Chicago’s Northerly Island, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats brought their first big headlining tour to town and delivered a raucous small-room experience to the sold out crowd of 8,000+ at Huntington Bank Pavilion. The steady breeze coming in off of Lake Michigan helped keep the earlier hot weather at bay while the Denver-based band tore through a set full of songs off of their first two records with barely a moment’s rest.
Rateliff showed off his impressive physicality from the get- go, strutting around the stage with his smooth boot stepping and well-timed rock jumps. His energy was infectious; with the rest of the band and the crowd joining in on the intensity. The crowd roared when the band dug into songs from their recent Stax Records release Tearing at the Seams and recent singles “A Little Honey” and “You Worry Me” were both very well received. The energy level never let up as Rateliff continued pleasing the crowd before playing the band’s breakout hits “Never Get Old” and ending the with “S.O.B” which devolved into a crowd sing-a-long while the band left the stage and continued until they returned for their encore.
Seattle-based indie-folk outfit The Head & the Heart opened in support and brought just the right swaying-sing-along vibe to the evening while the Sun set behind the stage giving the audience a spectacular sunset show of its own during their 15-song set.
