Even Nine are back with their third album, ‘Empires’. What’s more, they’re releasing a powerful video to accompany the charity single ‘Snowblind’ from the album.
Due for release on 14th April, ‘Empires’ is a 12-track journey of anthemic highs and melodic introspection. Even Nine (brothers Jody and Rick Martin, and Brett Stepto) have once more teamed up with producer Gareth Young, marking their third collaboration.
Even Nine’s signature sound, a finely-crafted balance and blend of rock and pop, shines out from ‘Empires’, but this latest album throws in a few musical curveballs as well. ‘Empires’ leads the listener onto a 45 minute rollercoaster moving from the sing-along hooks and euphoria of Sweet Anarchy to the balladry of ‘Snowblind’ (which features female vocalist Kezia and new instrumentation for the band).
“We’ve never used a drum machine in the studio,” explains Brett, “It’s also the first time we’ve had someone else come in and sing on one of our songs – but we did those things because they felt right and served the songs, rather than just desperately wanting to do something new for its own sake.”
“We wanted to do something fresh with this album,” adds Rick, “That runs through the whole thing – from the writing and production through to the artwork and videos. If there was a choice between two directions, we tried to always go with the one that was most different, yet still made sure we sound like Even Nine. We’re so proud of how it’s turned out. It’s our best album so far!”
‘Snowblind’ is a stand-out track from the album, which holds much meaning for the band and has been released as a charity single, with a particularly moving video. The song was inspired by Rick’s son, who was born with a rare, life-threatening disease.
The video released to support the song features some extraordinary people, chosen for acts of courage, heart, and soul. “The experience of making the new video left us speechless and saddened, but inspired,” said Jody, “These children, men, and women make a huge difference to other people’s lives. It was so moving to meet them and hear their stories.”
Even Nine has made ’Snowblind’ available as a charity single, with all proceeds going to Cots for Tots and Children’s Hospice South West.
